Class Description ;
Asena's classes are warm, friendly and encouraging for all client levels and abilities from beginners to advanced. Asena believes having fun in group classes, while building the connection between mind and body through exercising, is an essential aid in living a happy, fulfilling life. She strives to inspire her students to integrate exercising into their lifestyles in the long term.
Her classes are coordinated, powerful, and dynamic but calm and controlled enough to allow you to focus on your own breath and understand your body. Her classes are designed to restore and maintain physical and mental health.
In order to keep classes fresh, interesting and controlled Asena prefers to focus on a different area of the body each week. She loves giving anatomical information before the session starts and during the session about how our muscle and skeletal system work and how specific exercises harmonise this system.
You will feel stretched and more supple after each session as well as challanged strenghthened, more mobile and more deeply connected to your own body.
This is a private class for City for London employees only. You must be a current club member in order to join a class.
These advanced sessions are aimed at participants with at least 1 year of experience in the Pilates technique. We work into the detail of the practice bringing mindful attention to the particular focus of each week, and then take that focus into more challenging moves. You will work deeply (rather than at speed), to access the full benefit of the technique.
The class is taught hybrid, so you can access the sessions online. However I strongly encourage participants to join in person whenever possible.
'...the body has its own way of functioning, its own way of telling us what's going on inside, its own logic. Much of our task is to learn to listen.'
- Andrea Olsen
These sessions are designed to offer advanced students and teachers a way in to their own self-practice. It is a facilitated self-practice session with some guided practices followed by a chance to respond, reflect and feedback. The workshop style aims to counter the idea that we always need an external eye or impetus in order to lead our practice. It offers tools to support your own somatic learning (ie: from the first person perspective) that will lead to a deepening self-awareness through movement.
This is a one-off online class based on my self-practice guidebook and covers a basic Pilates programme, suitable for all levels. You will need an over-ball, mat and a medium strength theraband. You can also sign up to receive the class recording.
One to One Pilates sessions (online). For clients working with a specific injury or wanting to get more out of their sessions. Online classes offer a flexible alternative to private tuition, fitting around your schedule and timezones. Please contact Marguerite first before payment.
General level Pilates matwork class for staff at the City of London School for Girls. A steady paced class suitable for all levels. We begin each session with gentle mobilisations and foundation work, before building up into stronger sequences.
This 3.5 hr virtual workshop aims to support runners/ walkers to avoid injury through pre and post run/walk routines. Running and walking are the most accessible forms of cardio, and yet many people avoid it for fear of injury. Knee, hip and foot injuries are common problems for many runners, but by maintaining a rigorous routine of strengthening and stretching, guided by a somatic awareness, these niggles can become an important signalling system. The workshop will involve an opening class, focusing on understanding the myofascial sling systems that are particularly relevant to runners and walkers. There will then be a break, during which I encourage participants to integrate that increased awareness by heading out for their regular run/ walk. We meet back again after your run for a long stretch out. By the end of the workshop you will:
If you cannot make the session times, you can sign up to receive a recording of the event which will be available to view online for 2 weeks. This recording is sent out to all participants.
